UK Ring Size Converter 2025/26: Find Your Size in Seconds
Ordering a ring from Etsy, Pandora or US sites? UK ring sizes use letters A to Z. US uses numbers. EU uses millimetres. Get it wrong and you’re stuck with returns fees or a ring that won’t go past your knuckle.
This free UK Ring Size Converter fixes that. Measure your finger or an old ring, pick your size, and we’ll convert it to US, EU, Japan and AU instantly. No email, no app, no guessing. Data updated June 2026 from UK jewellers and ISO standards.
How to measure: Wrap string around your finger, mark it, measure in mm. Or measure the inside diameter of a ring that fits. Use the tool below — it converts mm to UK letters and US numbers automatically.
UK vs US vs EU Ring Sizes Explained
UK: Letters A-Z, then A½, B½ etc. Most women are K to P. Men are usually R to V.
US: Numbers 3 to 13. Half sizes common. US 6 = UK M.
EU: Circumference in mm. EU 52 = UK M = US 6.
Japan: Numbers 1 to 27. Japan 11 = UK M.
Pro tip: Fingers swell in heat and after salty food. Measure at night, not first thing. If you’re between sizes, go up. Better loose than stuck.
UK Ring Size Mistakes to Avoid 2025/26
- Measuring cold hands — Fingers shrink ½ size in winter. Run hands under warm water first.
- Using string — String stretches. Use dental floss or paper strip instead.
- Ignoring width — Wide bands need ½ size bigger. Thin bands can go true to size.
- Trusting US sites — “Size 7” isn’t universal. Always convert to UK letter first.
What If I’m Between Sizes?
Size up. UK jewellers can resize down £15-£25, but resizing up cracks the band. For surprise gifts, “borrow” a ring they wear on that finger and measure it. Or pick adjustable rings from Argos, H. Samuel or John Lewis.
How to Measure Your Ring Size at Home UK: 3 Methods That Actually Work
UK ring size converter! Guessing your ring size costs you £8.99 in returns. US sites like Etsy and Pandora use different numbers. Here’s how UK jewellers measure — and how you can do it with stuff from your kitchen drawer:
- String method — but do it right: Don’t use stretchy string. Cut a strip of paper 6mm wide. Wrap it around the base of your finger, mark where it overlaps, then measure in mm. Compare to EU size in the tool above. Paper doesn’t stretch like cotton.
- Existing ring method: Grab a ring that fits that exact finger. Measure the *inside* diameter in mm with a ruler. Don’t measure the outside — you’ll be 2 sizes too big. Pop that number into the tool as “diameter”.
- Ring sizer belt: Free from Argos, H. Samuel or Ernest Jones. Order online, they post it free. Most accurate for £0. If you’re buying an engagement ring, don’t risk it — get the belt.
UK vs US vs EU Ring Sizes: Why Your “Size 7” Ring Doesn’t Fit
UK letters, US numbers, EU millimetres — none of them match. Here’s the conversion trap most people fall into:
UK M = US 6.5 = EU 53.1 = Japan 12. But US “Size 7” = UK N. Half a size out. On Etsy that’s £12 return postage.
Pandora sizes: Pandora uses US numbers even on UK site. A Pandora “52” is EU sizing, not UK. That’s a UK L½, not L.
Wide bands: If the ring is over 4mm wide, go up ½ size. Thin stacker ring? True to size. H. Samuel staff will tell you this, but Amazon won’t.
What Time of Day Should You Measure Your Finger? UK Weather Matters
Your fingers aren’t the same size all day. NHS physiotherapists say joints swell up to ½ size. Measure wrong and your Christmas ring won’t fit by Boxing Day.
- Best time: Evening, room temp, after you’ve been up for hours. Not first thing — you retain water overnight.
- Avoid: After gym, salty Nandos, hot bath, or freezing cold. Your finger can swing a full size in winter vs heatwave.
- Pregnancy/arthritis: Fingers swell. Size up 1 full size and buy adjustable rings from John Lewis. Don’t get soldered wedding sets yet.
- Knuckle rule: If your knuckle is bigger than your finger base, the ring must slide over the knuckle. Size to the knuckle, even if it spins on your finger.
Can UK Jewellers Resize Rings? Costs for 2025/26
Bought the wrong size? Here’s what H. Samuel, Ernest Jones and independent jewellers charge in June 2026:
| Ring type | Resize down | Resize up |
| Plain gold band | £15-£25 | £20-£35 |
| Solitaire with stone | £25-£40 | £35-£60 |
| Eternity/full stones | Often impossible | Impossible |
| Tungsten/titanium | Can’t resize | Can’t resize |
Rule: Use our ring size converter at home. It’s always easier and cheaper to size down than up. If in doubt, go bigger. Pandora, Swarovski and online-only shops won’t resize — they make you buy again.
